Best Word of Mouth Recommendation
Tuesday, May 20th, 2008If you think that the Internet has replaced word of mouth in the realm of consumer influence, think again. A new survey suggests that when it comes to purchasing real estate, cell phones and music, ninety percent of us still rely on friends and sales staff to assist us in making our decisions.
I don’t know if I would purchase a CD based on a buddy’s recommendation alone, especially since you can usually preview at least some of the tunes on the Internet before the album is released. I do appreciate the advice of a good salesperson, though. I remember one in particular pointing out the ink cartridge differences between two printers I was considering buying. He showed me that the replacement cartridges for one of the models were about half the price of the other and that the quality was negligible, especially since I didn’t plan on printing any photos. Not only did he help me to make a decision, he also taught me what to look for in the future (and that not all sales guys are out to make a quick buck).
What have you purchased on the recommendation of a friend or salesperson? Did it work out for you? Do you do any research on the Internet before buying an item?
