Report the Potholes

Potholes

Jeff and I were talking about potholes earlier today.  Since we’ve had such a crazy winter - freezing, thawing and then freezing again - the pothole situation is particularly bad this year.  You can’t blame the crews, though, because they’re busy clearing the snow.  They haven’t gotten around to filling potholes just yet.  However, you do hear stories of how some areas are so bad, the hubcaps are flying off cars!

If you have a bad road story to share or if you know of an area in desperate need of repair, rant about it by clicking on the No Comments/Comments link below, then call it in at 1.800.268.4686.  Your Jack Nation bonus code is - you guessed it - POTHOLE.  It’s valid until Feb. 29th.

Whenever I go to work, I have two highway options, either 401 or 407. The 401 has potholes galore because it’s made of asphalt. I’m willing to bet that the 401 Westbound lanes in the express from Neilson to McCowan will be closed this summer for road resurfacing. Even if they do resurface any part of the 401, you’ll see potholes again in three years or less.
If I could, I’d use the 407 a lot more than I do now. Sure, you have to pay a toll on the 407, but it’s mostly made out of cement, and I have not seen one pothole in the cement areas in the 10 years since the highway has been opened. Even the asphalt parts of the 407 are in pretty good shape. I don’t know how much more cement costs than asphalt, but perhaps it’ll hold up better in the long run and create less traffic headaches due to road resurfacing.

Carly’s Note: Interesting info regarding asphalt vs. cement. Thanks for sharing.

Carly’s Note: LOL! Good to know.

    Carly,
i hit one with my rear right tire at the 400 north exit from the 401 abut 5 years ago it sent my Strout right up thru my trunk floor of the car. i should have sent the bill to the City of Torornto, but i sucked it up and had it fixed 500.00 later.

Carly’s Note: Nasty. It was kind of you to give Toronto tax payers a break, though - that’s like 15 cases of beer! :)

There are so many potholes it is too hard to avoid all of them. I always try but can never succeed. I was driving my sister and myself to a babyshower today on the 401 and the car infront of me hit a pothole I was far enough back to avoid it apprx 15 fit but the stone from it hit my windshield and placed a nice size crack on it!!!! I was so upset especially when I have not even had my car for a year I just purchased a 2007 Vibe.

Carly’s Note: A stone in the windshield is one of those frustrating moments you wish you could have back - it’s so unfair and there’s nothing you can do about it. If the damage isn’t too severe, some glass companies can make the existing windshield as good as new, but it sounds like that wasn’t the case this time. Sorry!

    potholes
how about the entire length of markham road from steels to kingston
I’m 1 of the plow/salter driver’s hired by toronto to keep these roads open
this is the worse I’ve seen them
I’m a scarborough boy born and raised here and this is bad

Carly’s Note: I’ve heard that area is bad. You should make numerous calls to report it, but call from different numbers and disguise your voice each time. :)
