New Chair for Super Bowl?
Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner. Have you purchased your new television and armchair yet? According to a U.S. survey, football fans plan to purchase 3.9 million TV sets for the Big Game and 1.8 million pieces of furniture.
Now I realize that Super Bowl is a bigger deal south of the border, however, I did find a flyer in my mailbox today promising to deliver “your new couch and flat screen in time for Sunday”. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a piece of furniture especially for a particular event. Clothing, yes. Food and beverages, yes. Decorations, yes. But an expensive piece of furniture? No. Is this a male/female thing? Or maybe it’s more about acquiring said expensive piece and using the Big Game as a “reason” (read: “excuse”).
Have you done this, not necessarily for Super Bowl, but for some other event? Do you know someone who has? Leave your story or opinion in the Comments/Reply section below. Today’s bonus code is ARMCHAIR. It will score you a Jack Nation touchdown until midnight on January 30th.

People who buy new armchairs or big screen TVs for the Super Bowl or other events such as that are the same people who line up at 3 in the morning on days when new gadgets or game systems (like the iPhone or Nintendo Wii). They just want to be able to tell their friends that they were the first ones to get these new gadgets. These are crazy people, Carly. Stay away from them!
Now of course, if I had the money, I’d surely get me one of those big screen plasma TVs so I could watch the Super Bowl, but I’d rather just go to a sports bar that has the American coverage so that I could see the new and funny commercials that they always air.
Carly’s Note: I’ll be out at a bar, too. Bad sightlines, but better camaraderie than staying at home.

Hey Carly just wanted to know if you were going to post the Bon Jovi ticket codes on you blog thanks
Carly’s Note: Not today. Decided to be fair to the people who listened faithfully. Not really supposed to post them, but I might do it again when no one is looking.

no i have not purchased a piece of furniture or big screen for a sporting event,I have heard about people buying the equipment than returning it after the event or next day
Carly’s Note: Kind of like footwear. I used to work in a shoe store and I can’t tell you the number of women I’ve seen buy a pair of shoes on Friday night and return them on Sunday afternoon, you know, after the hangover from the Saturday wedding has worn off.

I have a sister who recently suckered her 4th husband into buying a 1.5 million dollar house just in time for Christmas entertaining. How shallow is that - she only married this last guy for money (she’s actually told people this), but it has worked in her favour, I guess. Makes me wonder why I’ve stayed in a 30 year marriage.
Carly’s Note: Because you’re not a prostitute?
Oh, well, it takes two to tango. Her hubby must be getting something out of the deal.

P.S. I’m not bitter!

I’m purchasing a new waterbed and 54″ plasma t.v for this weekend. I’m very excited about the debut of Samantha Stevens Jack FM countdown on CityTV
Please check local listings for the time in your area.
Carly’s Note: Hmmm, that sounds a little perverse. The Countdown should be a good show, though.

I got a kick out of your response - no, I’m not a prostitute. And yes, her hubby is getting something out of it - a wife in her 50’s with 2 children by 2 other husbands. He just celebrated his 40th birthday. Maybe he needs a mommy? UGH!!!
Carly’s Note: Both parties are usually in it for some benefit, other than true romance. Like when a dirty old millionaire marries a buxom blonde twentysomething. No, she didn’t marry him for love - but he didn’t marry her for her personality, either.

WTF???? Carly.Girlfriend.
WHO the hell buys a new chair,(and, or,) WIDESCREEN TV for a freakin’ DUMB STUPERBOWL GAME???!!
I’d like a widescreen tv, but, when I can afford it, and, when I feel I need it. As far as the ‘Comfy Chair’ goes, my mum and dad bought me one for Christmas..and it’s fantastic!!
Vibrates and heats as well..(for some reason I feel like LOL!!) It’s MY reading chair.
The whole idea of buying these items specifically for a game is BS!!
Besides, I HATE football!!!!
Thanks Carly! I feel much better!
Peace.
Susan.
Carly’s Note: If I had a comfy chair, I’d never leave the house!
