Best Part of the Weekend

Friday, December 7th, 2007

The best part of the weekend is Friday night.  Yeah, you are tired from the work week and are probably passed out on the couch by 8 p.m., but you have the entire weekend ahead of you - about 60 hours to do whatever you want (or whatever errands need to be done, like laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping…)

The worst part of the weekend is Sunday night - it’s worse than Monday morning.  Sunday there’s that sense of dread, like you’re clinging to every second of freedom you have left.  By Monday morning, you’ve resigned yourself to the fact that another work week has begun, like a “dead man walking” (referring to a condemned inmate or that zombie-like feeling you have as you drag your feet into the office - take your pick.)  Monday’s are just plain old tough, even if you love your job.

Whatever you’re doing with your 60 hours of freedom, I hope you enjoy every delicious second of it.  Today’s bonus code is “delicious”.  Make sure you type it in by December 10th to score 100 Jack Nation points!

Favourite Burgers

Whopper

Burger King’s Whopper is celebrating 50 years, so Madame Tussaud’s in New York City is immortalizing the sandwich in wax.  You gotta love the Whopper - it certainly lives up to its name in size AND in taste.  Plus, it contains all those fresh ingredients, like lettuce and tomato, that many fast food restaurants simply don’t offer.

I’m a typical woman when I order my Whopper combo - I get the Whopper Jr. with fries or rings and a Diet Coke, you know, to save on some of the fat and calories. :)  And we’re coming up on the day of the year when the most Whoppers are sold - no, not Valentine’s Day after you’ve been dumped or disappointed yet again - but New Year’s Eve.  I guess it’s the last burger before your diet begins on January 1st and ends on or around January 3rd.

What gets your vote for best burger?  Feel free to post your thoughts in the reply section below.  Today’s bonus code, worth 100 points, is BURGER.  Make sure you sign into your Jack Nation account and enter it before December 10th.

What’s with the Nanny?

Nanny

So it was revealed the other day that Ethan Hawke hooked up with the woman who used to be the nanny when he was married to Uma Thurman.  I guess the caregiver contacted Ethan a year after his split from Uma to declare her feelings and the rest is history.  “They are incredibly in love”, reports one of Hawke’s friends.  Barf.

Jude Law and Robin Williams also hooked up with their respective nannies.  And this phenomenon is not limited to the rich and famous.  A friend of a friend took up with the babysitter, who, when I asked her what she did for a living, said she was a “student nurse”.  Oh brother, two porno plots for the price of one!

What is it about the nanny that makes her so attractive?  She just happens to be there and the kids already like her?  Naughty au pair stories in Penthouse Forum?  Men want to be babied (or spanked)?  Erotic fantasies of Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music?

I don’t have a nanny (probably because I don’t have any children), but I do have some advice.  Guys, the grass is always greener, so stick to mowing your own lawn.  Nannies, what goes around, comes around.  Ladies, when hiring a caregiver, make sure you hire Mrs. Doubtfire.  If your hubby runs away with a middle-aged, cross-dressing man, well, you’re much better off without him.  And there’s always your kids’ soccer coach or the pool boy or the UPS man…

Today’s bonus code is NANNY.  It’s worth 100 Jack Nation points and you’ve got until December 7th to get ‘er done.

Celebrity Encounters

ZZ1

A few weeks ago, I attended the ZZ Top concert in Vegas.  It was an awesome show!  Got Me Under Pressure, Legs, Pearl Necklace - all those guitar-driven tunes that are a pleasure to hear, especially on a hot day with a cold beverage in your hand (or on a cold day with a hot toddy in your hand?).  I had the privilege of meeting Billy F Gibbons when I worked at Q.  He’s so cool and laid back and he has so many interests, from hot sauce to vintage cars.

When I posted an entry in my blog about the Vegas show, a listener named Rob C. kindly sent me photos of his encounter with the band at The Hot Stove Lounge in Maple Leaf Gardens back in December 1986 (Rob’s the guy in the denim shirt).  Rob said, “It is definitely the coolest meeting of my lifetime.  I will never forget it.”  And that got me thinking, what celebrity encounters have you had?  Were they memorable?  Did you chat like old friends or did the cat get your tongue?  Post your stories in the section below.

Your bonus code for today is CELEBRITY.  You have until December 7th to enter it for 100 Jack Nation points (once you’ve signed into your account).  Special thanks to Rob for sending in the photos!  It takes a brave man to cop to that haircut. :)

ZZ2

And as promised, here are the bonus codes for the Ozzy Ticket Blowout:

5 p.m. - FLYING

You have until midnight tonight (Tuesday) to enter all the codes you’ve collected throughout the day.  If you missed any of the earlier codes, don’t forget to check out Samantha’s blog.  Good luck!!!
