Mr. Yuk and The Boss
Okay, so it’s my first blog entry and of course it’s the day after the Springsteen show. I can’t type at the best of times. You know it’s bad when the sound of your fingers tapping on the keyboard is pounding in your head. It should be illegal to schedule a concert on a Monday night. Actually, it should be illegal to have to work the rest of the week after a Monday night show, especially one the caliber of The Boss. If you were there, you know what I’m talkin’ ‘bout. If you weren’t, you’re about to turn Mr. Yuk green with envy and probably make that face, too. (If you weren’t a child in the 70’s, check out the link to Mr. Yuk – he even has a theme song.)
Bruce opened with Radio Nowhere, which you wouldn’t guess is a new tune because his devout Toronto following knew all the words. Everyone at the ACC was on their feet the entire time, fists pumping, belting out lyrics, chanting “Brruuuuccce” in between rock’n roll anthems. Sure, there was new stuff, but lots of classics as well, like Darlington County, Badlands, and Born to Run. Simply put, Bruce Springsteen rocks! He’s an engaging entertainer who clearly loves what he does. Samantha Stevens and I had a most excellent time.
You might have missed Springsteen, but you still have a chance to win his autographed guitar. The one day draw for members of the Jack Nation is this Thursday (Oct. 18). Make sure you join the Nation if you haven’t already. It’s free and you score points for doing something that you’re doing anyway – no, not picking your nose in traffic when you think no one is looking, but listening to great tunes on the radio.

Thought the show last night was good, but not as good as my all time favorite Bruce concert at the Skydome, with the roof open, Bruce, the E street band and the audience howling at the full moon. Did you notice he didn’t do any of his patented knee slides along the lower stage? Is he getting too old? His interaction with the audience just seemed a bit off.
Whats up with the “big man?” Was it me, or was his horn playing limited? During the other songs he just retreated back to his corner to play the odd percussion instrument. Sometimes he seemed to recede further back and just lean on something, some reviews said he was sitting sometimes during the concert! Is his 65 years catching up with him, was it the song set, was Clarence not feeling well or was it just a off night?
I have to admit loving the the duet Bruce sang with his wife, I haven’t heard her sound any better. That one song has got me ordering her cds, which I guess what its all about. But all in all you can never go wrong seeing a Bruce concert, even in the nose bleed seats.

Hi Carly,
Was this your first Boss experience?
This was my 11th time and counting. No performer can
come close to Bruce’s live show. I have been to about 250 concerts so
i think ttat i am a good judge of that.
Even though he did not play my favorite song Thunder Road
he played most of my other favorites.
His Badlands version really cooked. Radio Nowhere sounds so
much better live. The only draw back was the general admission floors.
If only i was 6 foot 4.
Cheers,
Bill

Hi Carly!! I’m a big fan of yours and always listened to you on Chez and was very disappointed that you left but am very happy that I can get you on the internet.
I really like your show with Jeff and I love your sexy laugh.
Hope that you and Jeff aren’t home sick and not missing your old friend “billy buckles”, he is on the radio still and now bothers Robin Harper.
I wish you all the best and miss your show but glad when I can listen to it on the net. Best wishes,,, You ROCK
